Floto was established in 2003 after Joe Floto brought back a leather travel bag from Italy and noticed that everywhere he went with it, people asked, "Where did you get that bag?" This chance encounter sparked the creation of Floto, a brand dedicated to bringing the exceptional quality and craftsmanship of Italian leather goods to the world.

At Floto, we specialize in Italian hand-stained leather that is metal-free, sustainable, and not harmful to people. This centuries-old Tuscan tanning tradition produces colorful leather that is easy to craft and gets better with age. Creating new styles out of supple full-grain leather brings us to the workshop every day with a smile, as we strive to refine old-world craft methods to make superior, high-quality leather goods.

Our collections, including the Classic, Roma, and Floto lines, are crafted with meticulous attention to detail. The Roma Cabin Bag, for instance, exudes an understated elegance that seamlessly transitions from business trips to weekend getaways. Made with full-grain vegetable-tanned leather and finished with YKK brass zippers and hardware, this bag embodies the perfect balance of durability and style.

The calfskin leather for our bags is vegetable-tanned in Tuscany, producing rich color tones and a matte (oil) finish that gives it an old-school look. Over time, this leather will soften and develop a beautiful patina, becoming more unique and personal with each use. The plaid lining of our travel bags matches the durability and heritage of our hand-stained leather, providing both style and functionality.

On average, a Floto leather bag will pass through 28 different workbenches at our factory in Florence, Italy, undergoing a meticulous process of cutting, skiving, gluing, sanding, painting, internal assembly, hand stitching, and riveting. This level of craftsmanship is what sets Floto bags apart, as we take pride in every step of the production process.
